Bullet Trains Are Coming to America. Too Bad Our Old Rail Lines Can’t Handle Them. Only a measly 375 miles of U.S. track are equipped for 100+ mph speeds. https://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/infrastructure/a45025005/bullet-trains-in-usa-high-speed-rail-complications/

Bullet Train

perviouslyiner ,

It’s hardly surprising that you don’t have high speed track if there was never a need for it? Not only do you need straighter routes but also the more expensive construction and the electronic in-cab signalling, which is just part of the package when introducing skinkansen

readbeanicecream OP ,
@readbeanicecream@kbin.social avatar

@perviouslyiner There is a need for it. America as whole needs a more robust public transportation system.

Thorny AI ownership questions have Copyright Office seeking public input
Should AI-created works be copyrighted? US regulators want to know what you think.

Icalasari ,

Wow, this is horrifying :D It BETTER not become copyrightable, else copyright trolls basically win, provided they have the resources to run enough AI

Many people feel they work in pointless, meaningless jobs, research confirms: The theory that many people feel the work they do is pointless because their jobs are "bullshit" has been confirmed by a new study.
https://phys.org/news/2023-08-people-pointless-meaningless-jobs.html

ME5SENGER_24 ,

I can confirm without the need for a study. My job brings literally zero actual value to the world. What’s crazier is the company I work for employs over 200,000 people and none of of jobs hold any real world value. No lives being saved. No scientific breakthroughs. Nothing.

Summary: A groundbreaking vaccine developed by Japanese researchers is potentially capable of preventing or modifying the course of Alzheimer’s disease.

See that word “potentialy”? Yet another clickbait title.

Still a fascinating piece of research and a novel approach. Animal trials look promising, so this could be cool.
